Arthur Kinder

Arthur was born in Salford, Lancashire and died at the ripe old age of 84 years and twice married.

He was probably born at his parents house at 1 Corporation Square, Salford[1]

His parents lived in Salford for a few years.
His father, James was probably chasing work but they returned to Dukinfield to have Arthur baptised[4].

Arthur and his younger sister, Bertha, were baptised on the same day.  Their baptism record stated that the family lived at Shaw Street, probably at number 5 since this was their addess when his younger brother, Joel was baptised in 1877[4].

My grandfather, Arthur, I remember as children used to come and see us every Sunday and gave each of us a penny piece to spend.  At Whitsuntide, all the grandchildren had to go to see him and show him our new clothes. He was rather deaf from working in the boiler shop and so he spoke rather loudly.  One thing he liked was quoting Shakespeare – “the quality of mercy” being his favourite.

Sophia Passed Away
Family lore has it that Sophia pricked her finger on a spindle in the cotton mill where she worked and died of blood poisoning[11].  In any case, she died on the 25th of March 1906 and was buried on 28 March at Dukinfield Cemetery in Grave A2-190 5903-P[11].

Arthur Married Ann Booth

Passing On
Arthur died of lung cancer on 22 September 1956, aged 84 years.  He was buried at Dukinfield Cemetery in the same grave as Sophia Ann Bailey on 27 September.  Kenworthy’s Funeral Service looked after things including re-opening the grave.  Kenworthy's invoice is addressed to Mrs A Kinder (Ann Booth) of 27 Inverness Road, Dukinfield – Arthur’s last home before he died.
