James was baptised on 11 June 1751 at St James, Gorton, Lancashire, England[1].

Marriage to Judith Longsden
There is the marriage record for James Kinder and Judith Longsden at Manchester Cathedral on 31 March 1777[2].  James was noted as coming from Levenshulme, Lancashire (not far from Gorton) and his occupation was Whitster (same as his father).  Judith was noted as being a Spinster, and coming from Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire (just across the River Tame from Dukinfield).  Their marriage Banns were read on the 16th, 23rd and 30th of March 1777.

When James' second and third children were born, he was noted as a Weaver.

I have found no death record for James but he died before 1790.  There is a Gorton Unitarian Church death entry for Judith Kinder on 30 March 1790 and she was buried on 2 April 1790 and the register notes that she was the widow of James and that she was aged 32 years[3].  This puts her birth year at ca 1758.  A reasonable fit.


The only baptism for a Judith Longsden that I can find was on 26 December 1731 at Mottram In Longdendale, Cheshire (just east of Dukinfield).  Her father was Thomas Longsden. --- this looks too early, she would have been 20 years older than James --- need to find a later one!  Is it possible that this Judith Longsden is the mother of Judith?



Three children have been found baptised with father, James and mother, Judith in the Gorton area.
