Joel Kinder
Joel was born in Dukinfield, probably at his parents home at 5 Shaw Street since this was their address noted on his baptism entry.

He was the third child born to James and Sarah Ann Goodwin.




By 1881, the family were living at 24 Zetland Street, Dukinfield.

Joel (incorrectly noted as Abel) was 3 years old[3].

In 1891 Joel and his family lived at 7 Danty Street.  Joel was then 13 years old and worked as a Boilermaker's Apprentice[4].

Married to Annie Stirrup
Joel married Annie Stirrup in Apr-Jun 1900 in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, England[5,6].  It was a civil marriage.

Annie Stirrup was born in Jan 1880 in Dodworth, Yorkshire (near Barnsley).  She was baptised on 1 February 1880 at St John the Baptist Church of England, Dodworth.  Her parents were Richard and Anne Stirrup.  Richard worked as a Miner[18].

By 1891, the family had moved to Dukinfield and Richard worked as a Collier[8].

On 31 March 1901 Joel and Annie lived with Annie's parents at 44 Wharf Street, Dukinfield - 20 houses down from Joel's parents.  Joel was 23 years of age and his occupation was stated to be a Flyer Forger meaning he worked a blacksmith’s forge.  Annie was 21 years old and worked as a Cotton Weaver[7].

In 1911, Joel, Annie and their children Eric and Bertha lived at 30 Davies Street, Oldham.  Joel worked as a Flyer Maker.  Two of their children have already died[9].

Later, it is believed they lived in Hyde, Cheshire.


Passing On
Joel died in 1961 in Hyde, Cheshire[10,11].

Annie died in the period Apr-June 1968 at the Ashton-under-Lyne Hospital[12.13].

Joel and Annie had at least 5 children:-[14,15,16,17]

1.  Ivy was born in 1901 but died very soon after in the same year.

2.  Norman was born in 1903 and baptised on 11 February 1903 at St Marks Church of England, Dukinfield.  He died in mid-1903 in Stalybridge, Lancashire.

3.  Eric was born in 1908 in Dukinfield and baptised on 10 May 1908 at St Marks Church of England, Dukinfield.  Eric married Ethel Froggatt in 1935 in Werneth, Cheshire.

4.  Bertha was born in 1910 in Oldham, Lancashire

5.  Joel was born on 16 March 1916 in Newton, Cheshire. He died in February 1999 in Croydon, Surrey, England.
