My earliest confirmed Punch ancestor is Thomas Punch, born ca 1796 in Wareham, Dorset, England[1]. Thomas married Ann Brown on 26 July 1824 at St James' Church of England, Poole, Dorset[2]. Their Banns were read on 11, 18 and 25 July[4]. Ann was baptised on 1 April 1810 in Winterbourne-Steepleton, Dorset[4,8]. Her parents were John Brown and Mary. When their first son, Thomas James, was baptised, Thomas stated his occupation as Mariner. |

Sometime
after Thomas James was born in Poole in 1825, the family
moved to the Docklands area of London, possibly, initially to the
Poplar district. When Eliza was born in 1834 the family had moved to Limehouse. Ref 3 has Thomas and Ann and their young family living in Tower Hamlets, London, Parish of St Dunstan, Stepney in 1841. With them are their children:- (Thomas) James (16 yrs), John (14 yrs), Sarah (12 yrs), William (10 yrs), Charles (8 yrs), Eliza (6 yrs), Louisa (4 yrs), Emily (2 yrs) and Maria (1 yr). |
