Crask Family Introduction
My maternal great-grandmother was Matilda Maud Crask. Matilda maried Enoch Kinder (b 1846).
The family name is spelled variously as Crask and Craske.
several generations they seem to have been in north-east Norfolk,
England in the towns of North Repps and Overstrand in particular.
I have traced, with confidence, back from Matilda Maud to her parents - James William Crask (1810)
and Ann Susannah Emery both of Norfolk, England. These two and
their family came to the Port Philip Distict (Melbourne) in the Colony
of Victoria in 1854.
I have also confirmed that James had a brother, Francis Neve Crask (1812).
He was born in North Repps, Norfolk, England. He married
twice - firstly to Sarah Tester in London. They had two children
- Caroline and Sarah Jane. Sarah Tester may have died in
childbirth. Not long after, Francis married Mary Brett in
Overstrand, Norfolk and they emigrated as a family to Victoria also in 1854.
James William and Francis Neve's parents were John Crask
who married Sarah/Susanna Neve in North Repps, Norfolk. John and
Sarah/Susanna had (at least) 11 children.
John's parents may have been - John Crask and Mary Ward. This is subject to confirmation.
I have prepared a simple Crask family tree.
Apart from the families mentioned above, there are many other
Crask(e)s found in Victoria but direct relationships have not yet been
established --- feel free to offer help!
